Lunch notes for kids have been around since I was a little girl. My Mom used to order them through her Current catalog and man did they make my day. I remember the feeling of excitement when I opened my lunchbox to find a cute little Suzy Zoo character lunch note.
To some of you, printed lunchbox notes may seem a little over the top. But, trust me, they really do put a smile on a child’s face. Sometimes it’s the little things that can really brighten up a bad day for a kid. Look at me, here I am, 30 years later, and I still fondly remember the notecards my Mom left in my lunchbox.
Do I really Need A Note a Day?
Remembering to print off a note for each day can be a little overwhelming, so I find that just doing a couple of notes a week can take the pressure off.

Hack for Storing Printable Lunchbox Notes
At the beginning of the school year, I like to print a bunch of lunchbox notes and store them in a coupon holder. You can add labels to separate the notes by child, season, holiday, etc. I always have a category for “I’m sorry notes” and “bad day” notes.
Some days, I may have yelled a bit much in the morning or some other Mom mistake. I like to slip a note about being sorry or making a mistake to let my child know that I am sorry for my misstep. It’s important to teach our children through example by apologizing and admitting when we have made mistakes.
I keep “bad day” notes because everybody has those weeks or days when things just aren’t going their way. Kids are just like us when it comes to bad and good days. Some of my lunch notes are inspirational notes to tell them to keep their head up and stay positive or to tell them how proud I am to be their mom.
Lunch Notes Don’t Need to be Complicated!
Handwriting a lunch note is always going to be well-received. But, finding the time to handwrite a note to one or more kids in the morning feels impossible to fit in with all of the other morning chaos.
Printing off all of these notes is an easy way to still provide a quick hello without taking up so much time. The best way to save time in the mornings is to set aside a little bit of time to pre-print a ton of notes and cut them out. You could even sign them ahead of time (although I prefer to sign them the day before or day-of just in case I want to add an extra sentence or 2).
So let’s get to printing our lunch notes!
